Barcelona – Poble Espanyol

with 2 comments

View from Poble Espanyol

Last destination of the 3rd day of the Trip in Barcelona, we take a cable car up to the highest point of Poble Espanyol, on the mountain of Montjuïc, Barcelona. From here you can experience the beautiful landscape of Port of Barcelona and also the view of the whole City of Barcelona.

The Poble Espanyol is an outdoor open-air architectural museum located on the mountain of Montjuïc in the city of Barcelona, Spain. It was constructed in 1929 for the Barcelona International Exhibition that was held in Barcelona that year. Josep Puig i Cadafalch was the one who had the idea for the museum: a town in which the architecture, style, and culture of various locations from all around Spain were all preserved in a single place. The aim was to give an idea of what might be an “ideal model” of a Spanish village containing the main characteristics of all towns and villages in the peninsula. For this reason, 117 buildings, streets and squares were reproduced to scale. Pieces were selected taking into account criteria of aesthetic fit that could help create a harmonious overall composition in accordance with the “village” design that had been conceived.

About the picture above, it’s a panorama shot merged from 3 horizontal shots. Shots were captured by 30s shutter speed.

Barcelona – Sagrada Familia

Sagrada Familia

On the same day, after visited Park Güell, we headed to Sagrada Familia. Sagrada Familia is a massive, privately-funded Roman Catholic church that has been under construction in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain since 1882 and is not expected to be complete until at least 2026, the 100th anniversary of Gaudí’s death. Considered the master-work of renowned Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí (1852–1926), the project’s vast scale and idiosyncratic design have made it one of Barcelona’s and Spain’s top tourist attractions for many years.

The unique about Sagrada Familia is that the construction on Sagrada Família is not supported by any government or official church sources. Private patrons funded the initial stages. Money from tickets purchased by tourists is now used to pay for the work, and private donations are accepted through the Friends of the Temple.

Recently, the Ministry of Public Works of Spain has projected the construction of a tunnel for the high speed train just under where the principal façade of the temple has to be built, that’s why there are lots of SOS banners around the Towers of Sagrada Familia. Although the ministry claims that the project poses no risk to the church, the engineers and architects of the temple disagree as there is no guarantee that the tunnel will not affect the stability of the building.

Barcelona-Boqueria Market

with 4 comments

Boqueria Market is not a normal market as in your town, it’s a historical market in Barcelona. Like i mention before, the market located in La Rambla street which internationally known due to its fruits, vegetables, fish and seafood, tapas bars ( famous dish in Spain), and others. The foundation began in 1217, when tables were installed near the old city gate just to sell meat and from December 1470 onwards, a pig market was held at this place which at this time it was known as Mercat Bornet. Then later in 1794 it’s simply known as Mercat de la Palla or Straw Market. At the beginning, the market was not enclosed and did not have an official statute, until later, the authorities decided to construct a separate market on La Rambla, housing mainly fishmongers and butchers. It is not until 1826 that the market is legally recognized and a convention held in 1835 decides construction of an official place, which began on March 19, 1840 under the direction of architect Mas Vilà. The market officially opened the same year, but the plans for the building were modified many times. In 1911, the new fish market was opened and, in 1914, the metal roof that still exists today was constructed.

As my personal experience, this was the first time i saw people selling pig legs and they are really expensive! about 100 Euros per legs. About the fruits and vegetables, you see the pictures above and judge it yourself how fresh they are.

Barcelona- La Ramla

La Ramla is a famous street located in central of Barcelona, very popular among both tourist and the local people. This 1.2 km street is very well known among the tourist due to the rare and amazing  streets performers that i, myself never seen such street performers like that. Along the street you can find a lot of souvenir shops with a reasonable price, but be careful, because this street is one of the prime place for pickpockets. Basicly, you can find anything here.

I did not get the chance to shot all the streets performers because it’s getting dark ( i arrived here like about at 17:00), so i enjoyed the performance myself. So here are a few pictures of them. At that night, i saw a street performer who dress up like a tree!!It’s really amazing….the full dress was in green and moved slowly like it’s being blown by the wind. At the same night, that’s the first time i went to a market which full of fresh meals and fruits!!Once you see the fruits, it’s like you want to eat all of them there… seriously. Boqueria Market ……….

Neu Camp Stadium of Barcelona

leave a comment »

2nd day of the trip, our first destination was Neu Camp Stadium of Barcelona because most of us are football fans, and i’m Barcelona fan, and therefore it’s compulsory to visit this stadium. It’s the most largest stadium in Europe which has a capacity of 98,787, and the tenth largest in the world. Arriving the front gate of the stadium, our first aim was to find the fan shop to buy some souvenirs and i would say the fan shop quite big and very welcoming, you can find almost everything here like jersey, posters, magnet etc. and i bought a cool mini ball of Barcelona with the signature of each players on it.

big poster of FC Barcelona in the Fan Shop

If you are one of Barcelona fans, going to the Neu Camp Tour is a must! But then, the ticket price is quite expensive, about 18 Euro per person if i’m not mistaken, on the bright side, you can get in the stadium and see yourself the changing room ( sadly you are not allow to get in the HOME side changing room ), the field, the VIP stand, and also museum of FC Barcelona, where the history of the football club being displayed.

Trophies of FC Barcelona

Total time taken to finish the tour was about 3 hours and personally i have to admit that it’s not worth-it for 18Euro because you cant’ get in the HOME side changing room. Maybe it should be like 12Euro or something like that because as a football fans, having an opportunity to watch yourself the HOME side changing room means a lot! Our next destination was La Ramla Street……………………………….

Wrong Concept

with 10 comments

For all this time,i was wrong about photography. This is my confession! Now i feel ashame to all my works for almost 2 years in this field. I was blind and lost in the world that all people followed it, without asking myself is it the way it suppose to be, is it the real way, is it the way that i want it to be. But now, i can see it clearly.Yes i was totally wrong.

The question i should ask myself back then should be why i become a photographer? Is it to shot a great photo? or because i want to be like the people that already good on photography? or i felt jealous of others works?

For all this time i, i went out, holding my camera, thinking about the technical and setting, how to get the correct exposure that i should use to get a great photo, how to get a nice bokeh or blur, angle and everything that others people do. When i went out for a photowalk with some friend, i normally ask myself what setting should i use, which aperture is the best, which shutter speed suit my shots. Sometimes people asked me “Hey, which setting do you use for that shot??it looks great”. I read a lot of articles, books, blogs, magazine about getting the correct setting for a picture. No wonder i was lost in the ‘setting world’ of photography.I know i need to know that stuff because it’s important for a beginner. But, i’m sure i was master at the basic setting after a year in this field, still i was lost for another year. More badly, i always kept thinking to get a new gears without appreciate the capability those lens that i already have, kept searching in ebay, hopping that the price of lens will drop so i can buy it. The truth is actually any gears that already in my camera bag is the best for me!!Sorry guys!!

For the past 2 year i joined flickr hopping to see others great photos, and back then i found a lots of great pictures there, everyone was great and i set my mind to shot something like that and search for the perfect setting and try it myself and i done it!!I feel like i success and proud of myself!! But then, I was wrong. Then, something change since the past 4 month. I felt something wrong and different, there was not many great pictures on flickr compare to the past 2 year (at the time when i begin in photography),i don’t know why i felt like that, everything looks the same, maybe i already looked at the same style of picture for almost 2 years and i’m not impress anymore. MAYBE. I’m not saying that i got a nice photo compare to others on flickr because it’s not!!! Clearly, i’m still learning.

I stopped subscribing Digital Camera magazine because it always explains about the correct setting on getting a nice photo over and over again and it makes me feel like i was wasting my money on the thing that i already know. I need to find something else, something new. A question came into my mind last few months….’Now..i already know about the basic photography, what do i need after this?Is this all about photography??’. I kept looking for the answer until last month…everything changes, something had opened my eyes to see the real world of photography.

Photography is not about taking a great picture, not about technical point of view of a camera, not about how to get the correct setting for an amazing shot, not about how great and how many your gears you have with you. It’s more than that!!!I know most people always think about the setting of camera when shotting something because i have been there for 2 years..yes!i’m one of the example. Setting is not everything. A photo can be a trash although it’s at a correct exposure or at a perfect setting. Photography is an art, not a lesson of technical or practical ability. If it’s all about technical setting, i bet everyone can be a great photographer.

I realized that each photo has its own story, its own mood, and as a photographer we have to bring that up, so that people will feel it. Photography is not about taking a picture, it’s about telling your story, your feel, the moment of the shot and that why to be a great photographer you need to take a photo with a great feel and mood in it! That’s my next mission. For those outside there who wants to be a great photographer, better stop thinking about the camera setting and start shotting photos with stories in it. Personally, i think moment and mood of a shot is not something that you can ask people or pro to teach you, it’s something that you need to learn yourself because after all it’s your own shot that you want to let others people feel it.

I know, a lot of my friends shot all the time using manual mode. Maybe it’s sound cool when someone knows you handling your camera with manual mode, it seems like you are like a pro photographer and you can control your camera 100%. Yeah i know, manual mode is important for some circumstances, but you don’t need to use it all the time. You will not focusing on the feel and mood of the moment if you use manual mode, but you will always search for the camera setting on the view finder to get the correct exposure and i’m sure about that because i always did that before. Why don’t you shot with aperture or shutter mode, and let the camera find the correct exposure because that’s the purpose of the setting in the first place, and you can focus on finding a great moment for your shot.

I don’t know if you really understand what i was trying to tell you in this post. To make it simple, i just want to tell you guys and myself, to start taking pictures with emotions, feels, moments, moods and stories in it because that’s the different between a normal photographer and a great photographer.

February Wallpaper

with 8 comments

All right, as promised starting from this month i’ll upload a wallpaper per month, for all visitors here for free!!which is from the best shot of the previous month. My main purpose is actually to keep my momentum up and polish my skill which i think this is one of the fast way and of course to let my visitors enjoy a new wallpaper each month with a CALENDER in it.

Back to the main point, this month i’ll share my landscape wallpaper, which been captured during my winter trip to Sevilla Spain last December 2009. The name of the bridge is Puenta de Triana de Sevilla which is one of the main bridge in Sevilla ( there are a lot of bridge here, you’ll be amaze if you come visiting here ). Shot was taken during sunset and the real shot actually exactly like this one, just a minor treatment was done to keep the the picture clean. The history behind of this bridge i can’t really find it in the internet.

Here is some info about the Triana Town which being connected to the Sevilla City by Puenta de Triana Bridge (I think so):

Triana is a neighborhood in the city of Seville, Spain, across the river Guadalquivir from the center, and in fact the majority, of the city. Triana shares what is effectively an island (sitting between two arms of the Guadalquivir except for a narrow strip to the north where it is canalized under the ground) with Los Remedios to the south and La Cartuja to the north. The island is also named Isla de la Cartuja, and has been home to human settlement since before the Romans colonized Hispalis (Seville).

Traditionally, residents of Triana consider the neighborhood to be an entity separate from the rest of Seville, as a result of its popular sense of identity. In reality, Triana forms an integral part of Seville, its culture, and its tradition.

so…here we go..the overview of the wallpaper, just click on it and you can download it (size:1200×800 & 1900×1200). or HERE. If the wallpaper does not match your monitor’s resolution please tell me.

Bucket List

with 2 comments

I’m sure that all of you might ask what is this “Bucket List” means actually?? It’s actually my personal list of all the photos I hope that one day, i will get the chance to capture them, even i don’t know if i get the opportunity to do so,they are just my target and my ambitious. Maybe some of the list are little bit like a crazy stuff but what the hell…it’s my dream to shot the moment. So……………………………………..here we GO!!

1. Foggy trees by the mountain: Winter season is the best season to shot foggy landscape due to the high intensity of water in the air or something like that…but erm….you know what….i had been  trying to shot foggy trees around my area here since last year…but i never come with a “WOW” result!!!After reading a lot of photography books….now i know the reason why….because to shot a foggy landscape…better you have a zoom lens so that the fog will be seen clearly if you shot quite far from the location.I have tried with my Nikkor 50mm but….still….never get the “WOW” result.

2. Pictures of War: to be specific….i REALLY…REALLY want to capture the moment people get shot by a gun or machine gun during war or something like that…..even i don’t love war. PEACE!!NO WAR!!!

3. 7 Wonders of the World: Yeah!!!absolutely!!It’s my dream since i bought my camera. I love travel and until now…for this list…i just had been to Pyramid. Other than that…nope!!maybe someday…..planning to go to China for The Great Wall of China as the next Trip of 7 Wonders of the World. In case you want to know what is the new 7 Wonders:

  • Giza Pyramid ( Cairo, Egypt )
  • Taj Mahal ( Arga, India )
  • The Great Wall of China ( China )
  • Chichen Itza ( Mexico)
  • Christ the Redeemer ( Brazil )
  • Colosseum ( Rome )
  • Machu Picchu ( Peru )
  • Petra ( Jordon )

4. North Pole : People love to travel around Europe as their dreams, but not for me. My dreams destination is…North Pole. I love to watch documentary like the National Geographic and the past 2 year if i’m not mistaken, i had seen a documentary about a Journey to the North Pole…wow..since then..i set my dream destination as North Pole. But this is not the main point that i want to share with you. Maybe some people may said “What do we got there??it’s cold…no people…what can we shot??”may i show you some thing that i had been dreaming for. HERE
see that…it’s the big Moon!!!yeah..somewhere in the North Pole..there is a closest point and somehow you can see a big full Moon there!!that’s what i aiming for actually.A shot of Full Moon in North Pole.

5. Earth: Yes..Earth! I want to shot the Earth myself from the outer space!!I know we can easily google and search for the picture of Earth and taaaaa…daaaaa…you can get the picture easily. But i’m a greedy person..i want to have my personal shot of Earth!!It’s gonna be amazing..wow!!

6. Makkah or Mecca : I’m a muslim and as most of all of you know…Makkah is the holiest meeting site of the Islamic religion.Since child i have been dreaming to do my Hajj (pilgrim) at The Great Mosque of Makkah myself. As a photographer..i want to shot the The Masjilil Haram myself.

7. Run & Shot : This is a cool idea. It’s actually shots in slow shutter and i run like a crazy people in the middle of a street with a lot of people around and shots like crazy while running.( i hope you get the point here) I think i’ll get some creative shots after i perform this stuff .

8. Jump & Shot : The same principal as point number 7…instead of running…why don’t we shot during the jump of Bungee Jumping!!Jump with a camera and shot and shout like crazy.

That’s all for my Bucket List..till then..chow…
